Recycle
The UF Office of Sustainability and the Physical Plant Building Services Department are working together to implement comprehensive recycling programs for paper, plastic, glass, and aluminum across campus. Working with these departments will ensure that your recycling bins are appropriately placed and regularly serviced. In 2008-2009, indoor co-mingled can and bottle recycling bins are being placed in faculty, staff, and graduate student areas. Pilots are also underway for new outdoor recycling bins and indoor bins for student and public areas.
- Paper recycling is offered across campus; every building should have a paper collection area for newspaper, office paper, and junk mail.
- All printer cartridges (Inkjet and laser) can be recycled through our contract vendor, Mr. Paper. When you have cartridges to recycle, simply contact Mr. Paper and they will arrange to have your cartridges picked up.
Electronics Waste
UF established an Electronics Reuse/Recycling Directive and an asset recovery program that is administered by Asset Management/UF Surplus Property. The program facilitates the sale or recycling/de-manufacturing of monitors, CPUs and other electronic waste that is no longer useful to the university. Recyclers/de-manufacturers or purchasers must meet strict standards for proper use or recycling of each unit.
For electronic equipment which has reached the end of its useful life (i.e., even smaller items such as jump drives, phones, and rechargeable batteries), use Asset Management Services for safe disposal. Familiarize yourself with UF’s Electronic-Waste Directive and the list of electronic items collected and recycled by the university.
Housing
University Housing provides recycling in the residence halls on campus. Housing also hosts a move-out program that works with local area charities to collect and distribute re-usable furniture and supplies. The goals of the program are three-fold: to assist local charitable agencies; to reduce the amount of usable items deposited in the local landfill during this period; and to assist residents moving from residence halls. For more information on this, contact Housing and Residence Education at 392-2161.
Tailgator Green Team
UF supports a TailGator Game Day Recycling Program. The Office of Sustainability, Solid Waste Management, PPD Grounds staff, and student groups work together to collect home-game recyclables. In 2006, this volunteer driven effort diverted over 26,500 lbs from the landfill. If you are interested in getting involved, check out the Green Team Facebook group, or email us.
