Water in Laboratories

For laboratory experiments where potable water is required to support research/experiments the UF Utilities Policy mandates that: “…use will not exceed 30 minutes duration and must be under constant observation by qualified personnel. Research/experiments requiring more than 30 minutes of pass through water must use self-contained recycle cooling equipment. The Director, Physical Plant Division, must approve exceptions to this policy in writing in advance.”

QuickFacts

  • Making bottles to meet America's demand for bottled water uses more than 1.5 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel 100,000 cars for a year. And that's not even including the oil used for transportation. (Earth Policy Inst.)
