What is A Green Team member/captain?
Whether faculty or staff, you can serve as a member or captain of a Green Team. All Green Team members will have the opportunity to provide meaningful service to UF, while networking across campus and promoting and encouraging sustainable actions and attitudes in the workplace by leadership and example.   As a Green Team member you will receive regular updates on sustainability program activities, opportunities, and will get university-wide recognition for your efforts.

We ask each Green Team, once they have gained the approval of their supervisor, to nominate a “captain” (or co-captains) who will act as the primary liaison between the rest of his/her unit and the Office of Sustainability.  Captains provide us with feedback from their teams, assist us in creating, promoting, and implementing programs within their units, and help facilitate information exchange and cooperation within their teams and across teams.

As a Green Team member, you commit to:

  • lead by example
  • rethink personal and institutional behaviors that lead to wasteful consumption patterns and work to reduce them
  • engage in activities that build a sustainable campus and community, and encourage friends and colleagues to do the same
  • stay involved with the Network by attending periodic trainings or meetings and keeping the Office of Sustainability abreast of your efforts

There will be training and support for Green Team members throughout the year to help you understand the basics of sustainability and develop sustainable practices in your area.
